IN OUR HOOD - BONNEVOIE

Brasserie l'Amicale (our favourite ♡)

Guests come here for lunch and dinner to enjoy proper Pasta dishes, thin and crispy pizzas or the special of the day which might be a minced steak with gorgonzola sauce and a fresh salad, or grilled fish with vegetables. This brasserie is a casual restaurant offering mainly Italian classics. Treat yourself with a cotoletta alla milanese or have one of the delicious Panzerotti variations.

Opening Hours: Mon – Sat: 12:00 – 14:00, and 18:00 – 22:30, Sun 09:00 – 13:00, and 18:00 – 22:30
Address: 27, Rue Jean-Baptiste Gelle, L-1620 Luxembourg

Bouneweger Stuff

This charming café with its wooden chairs, bare walls and a spacious, sunny terrace is ideal for a coffee (or beer) break, even when alone to read a book or flip through a newspaper. While offering a small lunch menu during the week, Saturdays and Sundays are for brunch (reservations are highly recommended). In the evenings you might want to try their “planchette”, a mixed platter with salami, ham and/or cheese.

Opening hours: Mon – Fri: 11:00 – 1:00, Sat & Sun: 10:00 – 1:00
Address: 1, Rue du Cimetière, L-1338 Luxembourg

Atelier Del Gusto

At first sight you might think that this restaurant is a delicatessen shop, but it’s first and foremost a place to stay and enjoy homemade Italian cuisine “alla mamma”. In a vivid atmosphere, just like in the south of Italy, start with their cold cuts and antipasti, followed with a choice of a pasta dish such as Orecchiette from Puglia, and enjoy a special meat or fish preparation as your main course. And definitely leave some space for a “dolce”. The ambience is authentic and you will immediately become a member of “la famiglia”.

Opening Hours: Tue – Sat: 09:00 – 23:00
Address: 26, Rue Demy Schlechter, L-2521 Luxembourg

Glow (our favourite ♡)

This is an ideal place for breakfast, lunch, or a sweet treat any time of the day, and not just for healthy lifestyle enthusiasts. Everything here is homemade and is vegetarian or vegan: sandwiches for breakfast, soups and salads for lunch, patisserie for dessert … The menu covers a lot and we promise you will “glow” afterwards inside and out. By the way, the Graace breakfast buffet is supplied by Glow, so chances are you have already boosted yourself with their freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices!

Opening Hours: Tue – Fri: 7:30 – 15:00, Sat: 09:00 – 16:00, Brunch on the first Sunday each month
Address: 2, Rue Xavier de Feller, L-1514 Luxembourg

Sawasdee Café

Hosted in one of Bonnevoie’s former traditional corner cafés, this unpretentious Thai restaurant is as popular among Luxembourgers as it is among expats and visitors. The lunch buffet is rich within typical Thai dishes, including some vegetarian options. At night you select “à la carte » and will be still positively surprised by the good value. Since Luxembourg from time to time becomes a shooting location for international films, you might spot a film star here. This happened in 2007, when Demi Moore and Lambert Wilson had dinner at Sawasdee during the production of “Flawless”.

Opening Hours : Mon – Fri: 12 :00 – 14 :00 and 18:30 – 21:30, Sat 18:30 – 21:30.
Address: 20, Rue du Verger, L-2521 Luxembourg

QUARTIER GARE

Bargello

When even Italians come here for icecream, you know it’s good. Creamy milk ice cream such as the “Fiorentina” with fresh milk, eggs and lemon, “Toskana” with pistachio and almonds or “Vespucci” with ricotta, figs and honey are all as tempting as Bargello`s fruity sorbets and vegan creations. And don’t forget to check out their pâtisseries glacées too!

Opening Hours: Mon – Fri: 12:00 – 20:00, Sat & Sun: 11:00 – 20:00
Address: 13, Rue du Fort Elisabeth, L-1463 Luxembourg

Bella Napoli (our favourite ♡)

The name says it all - not only Napoli is the Grand Dame of all Italian cities, its pizza is also very famous (and undeniably the best!). Besides classic primi and secondi piatti, this place is a Must for pizza lovers. The founder of Graace, Steve, prefers Diavolo, but even their Margherita is a real treat. As one of Luxembourg’s first pizzerias, established in 1976, it’s a place where you can meet everyone: a musician who just gave a rock concert at “Den Atelier” or a banker who just signed a one million euro deal.

Opening Hours : Mon – Sun: 12 :00 – 14 :00 and 18:00 – 22:00, Fri & Sat 18:00 – 23:00.
Address: 4, Rue de Strasbourg, L-2560 Luxembourg

Chez Lourdes Churrasqueira

(our favourite ♡)

Almost 100.000 Portuguese live in Luxembourg, so you will find many classic Portuguese restaurants in the Grand Duchy. Traditional and most authentic cuisine is served in a simple tavern ambience, making it great for a team outing or a dinner by yourself. We especially recommend their roasted chicken and grilled scampi.

Opening Hours : Check their Facebook page for more information
Address: 45, Rue de Strasbourg, L-2560 Luxembourg

IN TOWN

Business Dinner or Dates

Um Plateau (our favourite ♡)

Undoubtedly one of the most stylish restaurants in the city center featuring a classy bar and a beautiful outdoor terrace. Um Plateau is the ideal place for all of your occasions: a business dinner, an evening with friends or a romantic dinner date. It might appear a bit more pricey, but it’s worth an extra euro for their amazing ceviche or the fabulous mini burgers for a starter, and the steak or the salmon for a main dish. The lunch menu offers many delicious dishes, always including vegetarian options too.

Opening Hours : Mon – Fri: 12:00 – 14:30 and 18:45 – 01:00, Sat: 18:45 – 01:00
Address: 6, Plateau Altmunster, L-1123 Luxembourg

Ristorante Trattoria Il Riccio

Yes, there are indeed many Italian restaurants in town, and even across the entire country. Il Riccio is also a family business established back in the 1990s. Known for their antipasti buffet and seasonal specialities such as various fresh truffle dishes in the fall. Guests come here for lunch and dinner for great meat, fresh fish, and multiple vegetarian options.

Opening Hours: Mon - Sat: 12:00 - 15:00 and 18:00 - 23:00
Address: 6, Rue Beaumont, L-1219 Luxembourg

Ristorante Dal Notaro / Culturando

Authentic Italian cuisine and a true family business how we know them and love them! While Dal Notaro is a well-established restaurant in the district of Clausen offering excellent pizza, pasta and classic Italian main dishes, Culturando is a young, creative dining destination with a menu that changes weekly, based on the fresh products delivered directly from Italy. Both restaurants offer vegetarian options, but also fantastic meat and fish dishes. Their huge selection of wines even includes their own vintage, grown on the beautiful Cilento vineyards 2 hours south of Napoli.

Opening Hours: Both are open for lunch & dinner during the week, Dal Notaro is also open during weekends (Sat & Sun: 12:00 – 14:30 & 19:00 – 22:30)
Adresses: Dal Notaro - 149, Tour de la Tour Jacob, Culturando15, Avenue de la Faïencerie

Brasserie Guillaume (our favourite ♡)

It`s the place to be - and to be seen. This French style brasserie is not only beautiful with its interior design of the 1930s (it has just been renovated in 2020), it also has the best offer when it comes to seafood and fish. The multi-tiered-stands with oysters, scampi, mussels and other delicacies of the sea do just look spectacular and price-worthy. Their fresh taste coupled with a glass of crisp crémant is simply outstanding. Try their Tartare de Boeuf which found many fans over the years, and the grilled dorade is a popular choice too! And don`t be surprised to meet the charming Prime Minister and other local VIPs here, preferably on the terrace when the weather is sunny.

Opening Hours: daily: 12:00 - 00:00
Address: 12-14, Place Guillaume II, L-1648 Luxembourg

Grand Café by RedBeef

Looking back at its long history that began in1894, this café / restaurant is not a tourist trap as it might appear at first sight. Centrally located at one of the city`s main squares, it`s the ideal place to have a very good beef steak, burger, carpaccio followed by a café gourmand including a selection of mini desserts. You can`t make a reservation, so just pass by and try your luck!

Opening Hours: daily: 11:00 - 00:00
Address: 11, Place d`Armes, L-1136 Luxembourg

Um Dierfgen

The typical Luxembourgish kitchen is heavy but heartfelt and if you want to experience an authentic "Bouchée à la Reine" or "Wainzoossis" with mashed potatoes and Sauerkraut, this is an address you should seriously consider. Great spot for a Saturday lunch to break up your shopping trip in town or on Sundays since only a few places are open that day.

Opening Hours: Tue - Sat: 11:30 - 22:00, Sun & Mon: 11:30 - 15:00
Address: 6, Côte d`Eich, L-1450 Luxembourg

Yamayu Santatsu

There are a couple of Japanese restaurants, such as Aka Cité or Kamakura, but this little gem is unpretentious, cozy, and the current Michelin guide recommendation as "the right place to taste the best sushi in the city of Luxemburg".Sushi and sashimi here is super fresh which goes without saying, but just as tasty is the ramen which is not to be missed. This restaurant is tiny, and we recommend that you try to get a seat at the bar. Also includes choices for vegetarians and gluten-free diners.

Opening Hours: Tue - Sat: 12:00 - 14:30 and 19:00 - 22:30
Address: 26, Rue Notre Dame, L-2240 Luxembourg

Kamakura

When Hajime Miyamae opened his first restaurant in the Grand Duchy almost 30 years ago, he had brought Japanese cuisine to this country, which was until then unknown. And he did not only bring specialities like Buckwheat Noodle Soup, his Saint-Pierre Fillet “Saikyo-Yaki”, an excellent Wagyu Amiyaki, naturally also sashimi and sushi variations to Luxembourg City, but he has furthermore managed to create a passion for the culture of his home country that is burning until today. This place is truly loved by many loyal guests of different nationalities and a visit is highly recommended. Valet parking is available.

Opening Hours : Mon – Fri: 12:00 – 14:00 and 19:00 – 21:30, Sat: 19:00 – 21:30
Address: 4, Rue Münster, L-2160 Luxembourg

Palais de Chine

The Chinese cuisine is so much more diverse than many may believe and Palais de Chine proves it. A large choice of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes are served in a traditional setting, simple but tasty. The dumplings are our favorite! With its location in the heart of the old town, it is close to bars and small clubs such as “De Gudde Wëllen” for a beer or a schnapps accompanied by good music.

Opening Hours : daily: 12:00 – 14:30 and 18:30 – 22:30
Address: 18, Rue de l`Eau, L-1449 Luxembourg

Aka Cité

Being located most centrally in the building of the Cercle Cité library, Aka Cité is the ideal place to break your shopping tour or to pop in after work. You may either take a seat at the conveyor belt sushi bar or at a table to enjoy their dishes à la carte. The menu covers all you need and more you could ever eat. Nice to look at and very tasty are the sushi and sashimi platters for 2 or more people. Reservation is recommended, however, it is always worth to drop by spontaneously, as the restaurant is very large.

Opening Hours : Mon – Sat 12:00 – 14:00 and 19:00 – 22:00, Sun: 12:00 – 14:00
Address: 3, Rue Genistre, L-1623 Luxembourg

Drinks

Bazaar

Imagine you are in New York City where an Israelian restaurateur who had traveled a lot to other oriental countries brought back home his favourite recipes to serve in a shared style in a contemporary interior setting. That would be Bazaar in the heart of the city center. The signature drink is Tel Aviv 75 and the homemade Challah Bread is one of their bestsellers. The cosmopolitan crowd comes for apéro, but also enjoys dinner and drinks, preferably outside on the spacious terrace when weather permits.

Opening Hours: Mon - Sat: 08:30 - 00:00
Address: 46, Place Guillaume II, L-1648 Luxembourg

Beim Renert

This Luxembourgish café truly is a local hero and has already been the ultimate place to be since the last century. It is today managed by punk musician Giordano Bruno and his partners Philip Busca and Didier Quaring who bring everyone together at the bar: politicians, artists, lawyers, tourists, teachers … Everyone who knows how to behave is welcome here, says the team, while serving one of the best espressos in town, local beers and spirits. For lunch try the most delicious dishes avocado and salmon tartare, their famous club sandwich or a vegetarian casserole, to name a few (menu changes weekly). Not to miss: "Kraiderdrëpp" (herbal schnapps).

Opening Hours: Tue - Sat: 10:00 or 11:00 - 01:00
Address: 20, Place Guillaume II, L-1648 Luxembourg

Vis-à-Vis (our favourite ♡)

The corner where this little bistro "à la Parisienne" shapes the scenery is the most charming one in the center. Just across the oldest patisserie, Namur, at the family-owned café "Vis-à-Vis" a wild yet wonderful mix of people comes together for an after work or after shopping drink. If you look for a snack in between the wines or crémants, try a croque monsieur or delicious nut mix at the bars. Enjoy the simple and good life, and let go for a moment, just like the French.

Opening Hours: Mon - Sat: 07:30 - 01:00, Sun: 15:00 - 20:00
Address: 2, Rue Beaumont, L-1219 Luxembourg

Tramways

Tramways is one of the most pleasant corner pubs and a second home to young and old, locals and expats, every evening, who drop by for a glass of wine, a beer or a tarte flambée. The little train, which runs on rails suspended under the ceiling, has become everybody's darling. The Lebanese restaurant across the street is a good address too, by the way, and since they don’t offer alcoholic beverages, you can bring your glass or bottle from Tramways. This is what we call true neighborly love.

Opening Hours: daily: 17:00 - 01:00, except for Sundays when it closes at 23:30
Address: 79, Avenue Pasteur, L-2311 Luxembourg

Café des artistes

As the weekend approaches, this cozy, most charming café / bar fills up quickly from the early evening onwards. The more advanced the night, the more sociable the round. And the very special feature of this place is the piano, which is played by different pianists. Both locally and generally known chansons are played. To sing along is desired, but also just listen to the melodious music is always a lot of fun.

Opening Hours: Wed & Thu: 17:00 - 01:00, Sat & Sun: 17:00 – 03:00
Address: 22, Montée du Grund, L-1645 Luxembourg

Saumur

Saumur is a night club, a strip club, and it’s just as famous for its restaurant. Frankly speaking it is one of the few true clubs in town, and the only of its unique kind, offers great food, from entrecôte and pasta to “calamars croustillants” and a variety of vegetarian dishes - all night long! A sexy mix of stylish people comes here night after night, and Saumur is especially popular on weekends.
